5 Days of Homeschooling Essentials Blog Hop: Day 1 - God's Will #WIN

Day 1 - God's Will

I thought a lot about what I found to be essential when starting on the homeschooling journey.  We've only been at a little over a year but there were several things that really stood out to me.  The first would be God's will.
I honestly feel if you are not called to do this you will not be successful.  God's Will for our lives is so important and we need to heed the call when it is given.

When my husband and I first started thinking about homeschooling it wasn't because we had thought about it all the years.  Both of my kids were in a private Christian school and doing well academically.  The problem was mainly finances.  My husband was laid off of work and we new would could not cover the tuition bill.  When I sat down and did the math I realized I could homeschool for about the cost of 2 months of tuition.  That is really a big difference.  So we began to pray - if my husband went back to work by said date then we knew God didn't have us to homeschool.  The date came and passed and still no job.  In fact a year later he was still out of work!  If we hadn't obeyed we would have been struggling with that over our heads all year!

So why is it essential?  I believe when you are in God's will for your life you will be in the best place for you!  It was not only my life to consider but my spouse and three children.
God gave me these verses about a year into homeschooling and I think they fit our situation:

 Deuteronomy 6:5-7 - KJV

5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

I hope you have taken the time to pray about homeschooling and God's will for it in your life.  He may not have it for you but if he doesn't he will make that path smooth as well.

Thank you for joining me on Day 1 of 5 Days of Homeschooling Essentials.   I'll be back tomorrow morning to discuss another essential!

  1. Very cool how God answered your prayer so clearly. I agree that we need to view homeschooling as our calling, and our ministry to our kids.

  2. This is SO true! We didn't ponder it for years either, and had ours in a private school as well when we felt that homeschooling was the right direction for us! Thanks for sharing :)
