H is for Hello - Using Our Cell Phones for God! #abcblogging

I think just about everyone over the age of 15 has a cell phone these days.  They are so convenient!  You can call your parents while on vacation six states away.  Text a friend to tell them your running five minutes late.  Look up store hours, pull a coupon up for the craft store and even check the weather.

With all the time on the cell phone how much time are we using to serve God?  (Ah...I'm feeling the conviction!)  See that little device is a time-sucker.  I have apps on there to amuse me through-out the day.  Words with Friends lets me play a scrabble type game with my friends all over the country.

The bible says:

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. - 1 Corinthians 10:31

I don't think it is a stretch to say 'whatsoever' could mean cell phone use!  I know some people read their bible on their phone!  That is great.  (I personally prefer the physical book.)

What about going through your contact list and praying for them?  How about sending a text message to a few people each day through out the month telling them that you love them?  Checking in on them?  Asking them if they have a prayer need?

What about texting your spouse at work and telling them how much you appreciate them working hard for your family?  What about texting your siblings just to say you love them?  Your kid's to tell them you are proud of their lifestyle? Your parents to tell them you are thankful for what a good job they did with you...your in-laws thanking them for raising your spouse?

God has really put it on my heart these last few days that I spend way too much time on my cell phone and it profits little.

  1. Good thoughts. I don't have a phone that I can do very much on, and for the sheer fact that I recognize how much time I would waste with it, I am thankful we don't have a smart phone. I appreciate your inclusion of several ways to use the phone in a positive, encouraging manner. - Lori

  3. I love these ideas. I have a couple of friends who text me regularly to say they are praying for me. I love that. It's so encouraging to me. I wish I could be more diligent about doing it myself.

  4. I often forget to take time to pray. I have alarms set on my phone as a reminder to stop a moment and focus on prayer.
