In the beginning of the year I reviewed HelpTeaching.com focusing on older grades and high school. Today I'm bringing the same product for review but with a primary focus on kindergarten and grade school levels. Help Teaching Pro Subscription actually gives you a membership with access to all levels.
What I received:
Help Teaching Pro Subscription - which is an entirely online resource with levels from preschool to 12th grade. There are tons of things to print off this site including:
- Math, Science, Language Arts, Spelling Worksheets
- Lessons with videos for each grade level
- Test Maker
- Games
How We Used It:
Our bigger boys are now in high school so to focus on younger kids that meant we were working with my kindergarten student. For him I focused on printing up fun items for extra practice. The first thing I printed were these cute animal activity cards. They had activities like bounce like a kangaroo. I cut them out and laminated them so we could use them over and over. I've been pulling them out and setting them on a pile on the table. When I see that he needs a break because of the wiggles I let him pick two cards out of the pile and do the activity. It also helps to have him do them when a big brother has a question and is interrupting our school time.
Another thing we used were printables for the upcoming fall holidays. I really like adding things like this to our homeschool and J-man likes doing worksheets so it is a win win for him. I hope they add more of these because the colorful graphics are really nice. They really add to the fun of the seasons. His favorite thing I printed were the clip cards we found. I pulled out our paint dabbers to use instead of the clips. (Anything with paint is an automatic homerun in our house!) This is just a sampling of what is offered and what we've been using. There is so much we haven't even begun to scratch the surface. I plan on using some of the video lessons for extra letter practice now that we are back into the full school schedule.
My Thoughts:
I think this product was a bit difficult for me when just using for a kindergarten student. The preschool stuff was a bit too young but with him just being at the beginning of reading most of the kindergarten stuff required reading and writing he wasn't ready for yet. I have a feeling that towards mid-year or even the end we would be able to find more resources that were a better fit. I did find the Animal Movement cards on the first grade level - so thinking outside your child's actual grade is a must if you want to really utilize all that is offered.
When you look HelpTeaching.com as a whole there is a lot of great stuff. I think for someone with multiply levels they are teaching they would be very happy with the selection but if you are looking at things for just one grade maybe you might struggle a bit.
