Kicking Out Negativity! #abcblogging

I have a feeling this post is going to sound negative.  I'm going to rant and complain to make my point of why I don't want to hear so many rants and complaints.

It is ironic and has me sitting here with a stupid grin on my face and chuckle threatening to bubble up!

I feel like I'm surrounded by negators!  (negator is a word my husband made up to describe a constantly negative person.)  (This person was often me!)

I used to be 100% negative ALL THE TIME!  If there was a problem I found it.  The downside of things was always glaringly obvious!  The glass was always half empty.

Then I realized something.  I don't like being around negative people.  I like smiles, happy talk, and upbeat conversations.  (not saying there isn't a time for sorrow or seriousness - but there should at least be balance!)

I looked at those who could find the blessing in any situation.

  • Their car gets a flat - well at least it was just one tire.
  • It rains on their outside wedding day - at least my grandparents were here.
  • Coffee spills on the floor - at least it didn't burn my leg.

The list could go on for days.  So how did I find that silver lining?  Well, I work hard at it.  I pray to Jesus to show me the blessings so that I can focus on those.

The bible says:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. - Philippians 4:8

I'm taking liberty with this verse to say that we should look to those things which are lovely/good report and find the virtue and praise! So this is one of my personal goals for this year to find the blessing and focus on that instead of negativity!

  1. I agree! It is so hard to remember to stay positive. I have found that I am a much happier person when I make the extra effort.

  2. I tend to be a pretty positive person (I think), but I really struggle with teaching my daughter to be positive and cheerful rather than negative and a complainer. I quote that verse to her often!

  3. Your K post is a companion to mine! I blogged about Kicking the Bad Attitude to the Curb. I do tend to be someone who does find the silver lining easily but when I get into one of my bad attitude moods and I am so stinky negative!
