Twenty Yawns Book Review & Giveaway #WIN

I have a sweet, interactive book to share with you today. Twenty Yawns written by Jane Smiley and illustrated by Lauren Castillo is a sweet story of a little girl Lucy who has a fun day with her parents at the beach. As you probably know a day in the sun is very tiring. Lucy's parents are very tired at the end of the long day of playing on the beach and declare it early bedtime. Lucy struggles with falling asleep even though she is very tired. Through out the book the word YAWN is repeated exactly twenty times.  One of the things that I think make this book special is that little Lucy has biracial parents. I love that because so many kids will be able to identify with a main character just like them! We really enjoyed this book. The family dynamics and spending the day together having fun added to the typical night time struggles parents have makes it relateable to all ages!

Featuring lyrical text and beautiful illustrations, this bedtime tale from Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley and Caldecott Honor recipient Lauren Castillo evokes the splashy fun of the beach and the quietude of a moonlit night, with twenty yawns sprinkled in for children to discover and count.

As her mom reads a bedtime story, Lucy drifts off. But later, she awakens in a dark, still room, and everything looks mysterious. How will she ever get back to sleep?
