The Recovering Spender: How to Live a Happy, Fulfilled, Debt-Free Life #bookreview

The Recovering Spender:  How to Live a Happy, Fulfilled, Debt-Free Life
by Lauren Greutman

This was a fascinating book. Author Lauren Greutman takes us into her life and shares all of her mistakes with overspending. While most of us might not be as extreme, it was very relatable and convicting!

We are in the process of saving for a vacation and after reading The Recovering Spender: How to live a Happy, Fulfilled, Debt-Free Life I was inspired to save more. We stopped casual shopping and started only buying what we needed. I've managed to put away an additional $750 in just a months time because of this inspiration. I'm motivated to work hard on our debt and to stick to my budget. We've almost cut out all eating out (which is huge in our house) and that has really helped us to save.

I don't think I'm as extreme as Greutman and I'm not going to revamp my whole life quite like she has but I've learned a lot about my spending and I'm challenged to do better. One thing that I wish would work for us is the couponing she mentions. About 5 years ago I could really save a ton of money and had a stocked pantry and toiletry cabinet. However with the television show on extreme couponing everything has changed in my area. Coupons are just not as good and stores are playing the game better so savings is less. Maybe that trend will come back? For now I do my best using occasional coupons and shopping with my redcard and cartwheel at Target when I can.

Overall I think this book has a lot of value and if you like to shop or have debt this is a great read to help you refocus and get a handle on that area of your life. If you put in the work you will see some fantastic results.
