Duck and Hippo Lost and Found Review & Giveaway #ad

Summer is nearly over. In NJ we call it over when the kids go back to school just after Labor Day. I have to tell you it went fast. Too fast. I'm a little sad to see it go but I am starting to miss our homeschool routine. We've started back with some short lessons for Jace. I think jumping into school for kids is a difficult transition after having the freedom of those lazy days. So we've been doing some light math and reading work. I decided to pull this new book - Duck and Hippo Lost and Found - off the shelf and read it to him not knowing it was the perfect end of summer tale.

In the book,  Duck, Hippo and friends all go on an end of the summer picnic. While they are there Hippo realizes he forgot to bring something to share. So he goes on a journey to find some berries to share. His search takes much longer than anyone expects and he ends up lost. His friends come to find him.

This book was adorable. All of Hippo's friends did not care one bit that he didn't have anything to share. It is fun to see Hippo searching because he searches everywhere. Of course there is a happy ending too. I loved how the illustrations by Andrew Joyner brought Jonathan London's story alive.

We didn't have time to have a picnic and it is a bit too hot where we are to do it this week but we did make a rainbow craft to go along with the story.

We also went out to see if our raspberry bush had any late summer harvest (just like Hippo!)  and it did! Just one was ready for eating but there are a few more that will be ripe next week.
