Rescued Hearts by Hope Toler Dougherty was a very interesting read. This is a contemporary novel - which has been my genre of choice lately. In this book the main character has a very scary situation come about which throws Mary Wade together with Brett Davis. While the story line is intense the actual story itself is fairly light-heated and fun. There is not a lot of depth to the characters and I wish they had developed them a little more - especially Mary Wade's character. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the story but I wish I knew more of what made her tick because she was so strong and independent.
Rescued Hearts moves fast and is very enjoyable. It has a strong Christian base and I was surprised at how much detail the author took with the character's feelings of desire. It did not go past appropriate but danced on the edge. I think in general Christian novels are getting bolder in the subject matter, in this book, we have more of those types of thoughts of romance and even the crime scenes let you know what was intended without really going too far. Of course this adds to the story making it a deeper plot. I only wish that instead of just romantic feelings we got to more meaty aspects of the main characters personalities.
Her personal safety isn't the only thing in jeopardy-so is her heart. In Hope Toler Dougherty's new novel, Rescued Hearts, children's clothing designer Mary Wade Kimball's soft spot for animals leads to a hostage situation when she spots a briar-entangled kitten in front of an abandoned house. Discovering the kidnapped woman ratchets the complications for undercover agent Brett Davis. Brett forsakes his three-month mission and helps her escape, the bent-on-revenge brutes following behind . . . and then Mary Wade's safety is threatened once more.
