When we started homeschooling in six years ago I was nervous. I felt confident about science and history. I even had a great plan for English. My biggest fear was math. It wasn't my strongest subject in high school and I just didn't think I could handle teaching anything beyond 2nd grade. Back then the 2.0 version had just hit the scene and I bought the full kit which was Self-grading discs, workbook and answer key. We found quickly that we rarely used the books in favor of doing the entire program on the computer. This program was a lifesaver because it taught and kept track of everything. It even shows solutions to problems when a child might struggle. It is a very complete program.

Recently the latest version has been released and we were able to give it a try. Teaching Textbooks 3.0 is completely online. It is the program we love without having to have a bulky textbook or disc set. There are new features like new buddies and backgrounds. There is also permanent grade storage which is awesome - no more worrying about your computer crashing!

We have found that the new version is our favorite. I always worried about having the discs with children. While Teaching Textbooks has been great about selling replacement discs (don't ask how I know!) it has always worried me that my kids would not be responsible enough with the discs. Cost is another factor. The new online 3.0 is only $43.08 -$67.08 for 12 months compared to $119.90- $184.90 for the physical 2.0 version.

As a long time user of Teaching Textbooks the upgrades to 3.0 are perfect. We love having internet access and being able to do school on the go without having to bring along anything other than the laptop. I think the Parental section has a lot of added features. For me this is an easy switch because I really didn't love having the discs. I'm so happy that it is entirely online. My son (15 years old) feels the same way, he likes that he doesn't have to use the discs and can just access online as well. I feel like it has modernized the process.
