What If Everybody Said That? Book Review & Giveaway!

Do you sometimes speak without thinking?

Do you sometimes think about yourself only when thinking?

Do you sometimes say things you don't mean?

Let's face it sometimes we really don't put a lot of thought into how our words affect other people. I know I'm guilty and I'm an adult. I see my 7 year old really starting to learn that his words are not always kind. We all need gently reminders that what we put out there can really hurt someone's feelings. In the days where bullying is prevalent and so many schools are trying to eradicate it a book like - What If Everybody Said That? - can really help kids to visually hear and see how the words they say really matter.

In this book, we see that some of the kids are mean. They don't always intend to be mean but that is the results of their words. One example is a little girl playing at the park saying, " NO BOYS ALLOWED!" The way the book works is that when something hurtful is said another person pipes in with the title phrase 'WHAT IF EVERYONE SAID THAT?' - it really stops and makes you think and realize how your words impact the situation and people's feelings.

At the end of the book there is a spin and positive turn around where the child ends up making the situation right. I love that example on what to do if you make a mistake. Giving the resolution example really helps bring the book full circle. I love this book and I think the message is simple but very much needed with little kids.

about:

What if everybody chose to be kind?

If you tell someone that they can’t play with you, there’s no harm done, right? But what if everybody said that? What if everybody forgot to be kind…and made fun of other kids’ artwork at school, or told a fib, or refused to share with a person in need? The world wouldn’t be a very nice place to live. But what if everybody thought before they spoke, so the world would be a kinder place?

With clear prose and lighthearted artwork, this companion book to the bestseller What If Everybody Did That? explores the power of words and shows kids that the things we say matter.
