Being a boy mom I don't really have a lot of girly products come my way. I mean occasionally I do. However most of it is fluffy unicorn stuff. While that has its place I often wonder about the other side of raising girls. See as a boy mom I made it my goal to raise strong, independent, intelligent boys. I want them to own their lives and live to the fullest. I'm pretty sure girl-moms want the same thing for their girls.

Raising strong, capable children is so important. Somewhere along the way it seems society has played a part in holding girls back. Most of these television shows I see seem to teach tearing others down to lift yourselves up. Strong is the Pretty by Kate T. Parker was a book that put a different thought process out there. Girls could be strong and accomplished. They could be proud of who they are. I love this! (Hey Kate - maybe a boy version of this stunning book!)
I was recently sent the journal that goes with the original book. I was floored at how cool and well done this book was. It has so many things going on. Prompts on each page have kids thinking about their thoughts, dreams and lives. There is room to doodle and explore. I love this book. I think it would make an amazing gift this holiday season it is THAT GOOD! I have some interior shots to show you some samples because it really helps get a feel for this wonderful journal:
A few months ago I was with my little cousin. She is a beautiful little girl with gorgeous ringlets on her head. I looked at her and blurted out about how pretty she was to her. Immediately I knew this isn't what I want this little girl to think is important and followed up with - and your pretty on the inside. I wish looking back I had commented to her how strong she was, how accomplished (as she is a wonderful well rounded child.) Just some food for thought - I think this book helps with the thought process. Let's give girls some tools to know that there is so much more than pretty.
