12th Grade Curriclum Choices 2019-2020

How is it that I have another child graduating. I'm not sure I've recovered from the last one! Seriously, though, I'm excited to embark on another senior year. To see what the future holds for my second born and where God will lead him in his future.

Each school year in high school is unique. What works for us might not be the same things that will work for you. It is subjective to what courses you've finished in the previous years. It takes planning in 8th grade to figure out what areas of course you want to study each year. If you plan well you won't have much to cover in your child's senior year. Also it largely depends on what your child's future plans are. For example you might need that 3rd or 4th year of a foreign language if they plan to go onto a competitive University but if you don't than two years is really all that is required for most local homeschool laws.

In NJ we have another kind of obstacle that is the loose laws. We just have to base our courses on equal studies to the local high school but there is a lot of room for interpretation. Which is probably why you will see our senior year is lighter than some. We have covered a lot of things in the previous 3 years and don't need many filler courses so it will be not be a heavy year. However we do need to play catch up on the math because that is an area that does not come easy for my student. We have covered many electives including a personal finance course and bible over the years so there is not much left.

I've listed the credits but it will depend on how much we accomplish by the end of the year to see how it plays out on the transcript.

What we plan to do for High School:

English Comp 1 Credit
Art History 1/2 - 1 Credit
Geography 1/2 Credit
Art 1/2-1 Credit
British Literature 1/2 - 1 Credit

The Good and The Beautiful High School Language Arts Level 2

- This course will cover all the grammar, writing and British literature for a full year of school.
- Art history and Art projects are included
-geography is included

For this course we plan to add some additional British Literature novels to round out the reading. We also will be reading several books on famous artist as well as studying famous art works. The course also has 12 art projects which will give us a credit for practical art as well.

Math 1 Credit

ACE PACE - Algebra 2

World History 1 Credit

Mystery of History Volumes 3 & 4 - done at an accelerated pace to complete in one year.

Bible - 1 Credit

Reading the Bible, Bible devotion, plus reading several assigned books to be determined as we go.

That is really all we have planned. The English Course will make up the bulk of his required work with several subjects woven in. We've done all the required sciences and don't intend to do any additional at this time.
